Day Trip in Phichit's Bueng Si Fai

Phichit is situated an hour south of Phitsanulok. It isn't much of a tourist destination. While visiting in the summers of 2010 and 2011, I failed to see even a single tourist walking on the street.

But if you ask someone who's a native of Phichit as to where you can visit, Beung Si Fai always come out of the mouth in a heartbeat.

Bueng Si Fai is described as a fish-breeding ground owned by the Fishery Department and is surrounded by lotus flowers. Along the banks is a beautifully landscaped park appropriate for relaxation and recreation. You can either have a picnic or paddle your way around the lake with goose paddle boats.

A variety of local fish and local fishing equipment are being exhibited in an aquarium on the other side of the park. However, some tanks were unlabeled so we had difficulty identifying Nemo's relatives.

The aquarium is open on weekdays from 9.00 am-6.00 pm and weekends from 9.00 am-7.00 pm. If you have other questions you can call them at 0 5661 1309.

There is also an unusual building standing in front of the lake constructed in the shape of a giant crocodile. I said unusual because at first we thought it was just like the other statues we normally see in Thailand; big and, well, big. We later learned that inside the crocodile's body is a meeting room equipped with air-conditioner.
